The famous story of the forbidden fruit in Genesis
A reiterated lecture overtime
Do not eat the forbidden fruit says the All-knowing & wise one!!!
But his instructions may have been seen as torture
As the lure of the fruit drew them in so deep that there was hesitance in resistance
Maybe it was the desire to have what they couldn’t & shouldn’t have? Or maybe the difficulty in resisting temptation?
But
Maybe there’s a reason the Almighty instructed that the fruit not be eaten
Because
When the fruit has been eaten
When that sin has been committed
When the wrong door has been opened
When that experience that shouldn’t have been experienced has been experienced
What happens?
The mind & thoughts (oh so powerful!) are affected because the eyes are now open to new possibilities & a new discovery has been made
Actions are now affected and thus a new habit is formed
It’s like a spell has been cast & the power of that forbidden fruit has completely overwhelmed you
It’s like bondage difficult to break free from
It’s like starting a new journey to an unknown destination and on this journey, there are two paths – one that can lead to destruction if nothing is done or one of renewal, recleansing & repentance. Renewal, recleansing & repentance may be difficult in the first instance but with God all things are possible.
An example is drugs. Once the forbidden fruit of marijuana or weed has been eaten the first time and that ‘misleading feel-good-feeling’ has been experienced, and then a second & third time & so forth, it becomes an addiction with an unknown outcome. Wrong decisions may be made by the person or someone else can be put in danger as a result of the actions of the person when they’re high on the substance. One can either stop, seek help and become clean or do nothing.
Whatever stage you’re at after eating a forbidden fruit, if you’re now addicted or if you love yourself less and feel unworthy; I encourage you with the following verses from the Bible
1 John 1:9 – If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness
1 John 4:19 – We love him because he first loved us
Proverbs 3:5 – Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding
Psalm 42:5 – Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance
For those that have the desire or temptation to eat a forbidden fruit and haven’t, I encourage you with the following verses from the Bible
1 Corinthians 10:13 – No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it
Psalm 46:1 – God is our refuge and strength; A very present help in trouble
Luke 10:19 – Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents & scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
It’s very difficult to break free from an addiction, stop a particular sin or stop a bad habit. I believe everyone has something they’re struggling with as we are humans and imperfect. But let’s not give up on ourselves. Luke 1:37 says “for with God, nothing will be impossible.” We can be better! We shall be better!
I really do hope that this article has blessed someone. Please feel free to add Bible verses or testimonies in the comments section. God bless you all.
